Carrot

There's no one way to define a family—families and household arrangements are diverse. That’s why Nutanix now offers Carrot, a family-forming benefit that provides personalized support on your path to parenthood.

Carrot’s platform includes unlimited, free virtual visits with Carrot’s team of family-forming experts. These experts include reproductive endocrinologists, urologists, adoption experts, doulas, midwives, LGBTQ+ family-forming experts, and mental health professionals.

Your family-forming journey is supported by Carrot in a number of ways:

  • Fertility care: Care and services associated with understanding your reproductive health, intrauterine insemination (IUI), in vitro fertilization (IVF), or non-gestational carrier-related donor materials, services, and interventions. Note: You don’t need a fertility diagnosis to use Carrot’s services.
  • Adoption: International, domestic, and foster care adoption services from an eligible provider.
  • Surrogacy: Legally allowed care, services, interventions, and medications associated with family forming when working with a gestational carrier (GC).
  • Fertility preservation: Care and services associated with freezing or storing reproductive tissue, eggs, embryos, or sperm for future use.
  • Pregnancy: Access to Carrot’s team of specialists before and after the baby arrives—including midwives, obstetricians and gynecologists, doulas, and lactation consultants, night nurses, and return-to-work coaches—all available to answer your questions.
The Carrot benefit includes:
  • A customized plan and care team.
  • One-on-one consultations with navigation experts who can help connect you to providers and book your appointments.
  • Curated resources from a library of expert-authored articles and videos.
  • At-home support through Carrot’s telehealth platform and partners, including discounted access to:

    • Legacy, a digital fertility clinic that helps Carrot members test, freeze, and improve the quality of their sperm.
  • Access to mental health providers supporting you throughout your journey.

Eligibility

You and your spouse or domestic partner are eligible for Carrot benefits when you’re covered by a Nutanix medical plan. Dependent children are not eligible for this benefit.

Carrot funds

You have unlimited access to the platform and a lifetime Nutanix-funded benefit of up to $15,000 per family across all of your Carrot benefits. You can access these funds through the Carrot Card® or through reimbursement on the Carrot platform.

You can use these funds to cover:

  • Infertility diagnosis, studies, and testing
  • Donors and cryopreservation
  • Stimulated intrauterine insemination (IUI) and in vitro fertilization (IVF)
  • Eligible medications
  • Doula services
  • 1:1 coaching sessions with pregnancy experts, like nutritionists and lactation consultants
  • Adoption benefits
  • Surrogacy benefits

Important notes:

  • UHC CDHP – HSA: If you’re enrolled in the UnitedHealthcare CDHP – HSA, you must meet your plan deductible prior to accessing your Carrot funds for medical expenses. Accessing Carrot funds for non-medical expenses does not require you to meet your medical plan deductible.
  • Taxes: When you use the funds for certain nonmedical expenses or reimbursements, this may be a taxable benefit. If an expense is taxable, it will be reflected in your paycheck within two pay periods, and you'll be responsible for the tax. Contact Carrot support to confirm whether a specific expense or reimbursement is a taxable benefit.

Enrolling

You have access to Carrot when you're enrolled in a Nutanix medical plan. After enrolling in your medical plan, it can take up to two weeks to gain Carrot access. Once you have registered with Carrot, you can schedule unlimited expert chats, search the database of top providers, access your Nutanix-sponsored funds, and more. UHC: Maternity Support

When you’re enrolled in a UnitedHealthcare medical plan, you have access to online resources to help you throughout your pregnancy. This includes video courses on what to expect, plus tips on nutrition, exercise, breastfeeding, and more. Get the information and support you need during your pregnancy and after giving birth. Kaiser: Maternity Support

Your Kaiser Care team is with you every step of your pregnancy. In addition to your doctor or midwife, you can access resources for every stage of pregnancy, labor and delivery, and your baby’s first few weeks at home. On the Kaiser Permanente website, you can review articles, checklists, videos, virtual tours of our maternity wards, and more.

Emotional Support: EAP & Headspace Care

The journey to parenthood can be an emotional rollercoaster. Nutanix provides you with resources to help.

In addition to mental health care provided through your medical plan, Nutanix provides you with free, confidential support, no matter the time of day.

Concern, our Employee Assistance Program (EAP) provider, offers you free and confidential counseling 24/7 with referrals available to quality providers for child care, adoption assistance, and much more. Visit Concern or call 800-344-4222.

For anyone enrolled in a Nutanix medical plan, Headspace Care (formerly Ginger) provides mental wellness support with on-demand access to behavioral health coaches. Support for Reproductive Healthcare

Part of your comprehensive healthcare coverage includes access to reproductive healthcare services. Below is a summary of the options available to you:

UnitedHealthcare (UHC)

The UHC medical plans* cover domestic travel and lodging when necessary for required in-patient treatment. The plans also cover costs associated with abortion care when interstate travel is required.

Kaiser Permanente

The Kaiser Permanente HMO in California includes in-network abortion care coverage.

Carrot

Carrot is the Nutanix partner in fertility, family-forming, and reproductive support. However, family benefits also extend to interstate, domestic travel related for non-viable pregnancies or abortion. Benefits cover the member, in addition to an associated companion when otherwise not covered under the medical plan. Expenses reimbursed apply toward the $15,000 lifetime maximum and are a taxable benefit.

Menopause Support

Carrot, our fertility healthcare and family-forming benefits provider, is on a mission to support fertility care for all. Benefits include support for employees preparing for or experiencing menopause. While the average age for menopause is 51, some begin experiencing symptoms up to a decade earlier. These symptoms, such as hot flashes, fatigue, and brain fog, can affect a person’s mood and productivity. Carrot is there to help employees navigate these challenges.

Frequently Asked Questions

When is the travel benefit available for medical care under UnitedHealthcare coverage?

There are several types of services where the travel benefit is available. This includes, but is not limited to, organ transplants, mental health and substance abuse, and select reproductive health services, as permitted by law and subject to IRS and plan limits. For more information, contact UnitedHealthcare at the number on the back of your ID card.

Can I use the Carrot benefit for relocation/moving?

No.

Can I use the Carrot benefit to pay for healthcare services such as the termination of a non-viable pregnancy?

No. You may only use the Carrot benefit for eligible interstate travel required for reproductive care for you or a covered spouse/domestic partner. Healthcare services are covered under your medical plan.

Are there any limits on the number of times the Carrot benefit can be used by a member?

There is only a limit on the financial lifetime benefit of $15,000 for all care or support provided through Carrot. There are no quantity limits.

Do I need to be enrolled in a medical plan to use services provided by Carrot?

Yes. The Carrot program is provided to you and your spouse/domestic partner when covered by a Nutanix medical plan.
