Your New Hire Benefits Checklist

Step 1: Explore your benefits (during your first two weeks)

Take some time to get familiar with everything Nutanix offers, and decide which coverage is right for you and your family.

You'll find details medical, pharmacydental, and vision and more right here on this site.

Step 2: Enroll in your benefits (within 30 days)

You have 30 days from your hire date to enroll in your Nutanix health and insurance benefits.

  • Full-time employees: Coverage begins as of your hire date.
  • Part-time employees and interns (working 20+ hours/week): Coverage begins the first of the month after you complete the 60-day waiting period.

If you enroll dependents (spouse, domestic partner, or children), be sure to add them during this window—they won't be automatically covered.

Once enrolled, it will take up to five business days for your information to be captured in the various insurance provider systems. At that time, you can access your accounts online, print or save temporary cards, and access providers.

If you enroll in the UHC CDHP – HSA, your Health Savings Account (HSA) will be automatically set up effective the first of the month following your enrollment. You’ll need to validate your account with HealthEquity to complete the setup. Contributions will be held until it's validated or until 90 days after enrollment.

What happens if I don’t enroll?

If you don’t enroll during the 30-day window following your hire date, you'll be automatically enrolled in the following benefits:

Note: You won't be enrolled in dental or vision coverage, and your dependents won't be covered under any health plans.

Your next chance to make changes will be during Open Enrollment, typically held each year in the fall, unless you experience a qualifying life event during the year. Changes due to life events must be made within 30 days of the event.

Forgot what you selected?

You can always check your benefits elections in Workday:

  • Go to Benefits and Pay.
  • Under Benefits, click Benefit Elections.
Short Term Disability (STD) Tax Choice

When you first enroll in benefits, or during Open Enrollment, you'll choose how your STD benefit is taxed:

  • Option 1—Taxable: No cost now, but any future STD benefits are taxed.
  • Option 2—Non-Taxable: You pay tax today on the premiums Nutanix covers, so that any future STD benefits are not taxed. This is called imputed income, and it will show up on your W-2.

If you don't make a choice, you'll be automatically enrolled in Option 2. If you prefer Option 1, you'll need to make that selection in Workday.

Step 3: Save for the future (after your second paycheck)

Around your second paycheck, you'll be eligible to participate in the Nutanix 401(k) Plan. Fidelity will send you a welcome email with instructions (approximately 4-6 weeks after your hire date).

Visit the Fidelity website to make your contribution elections. If you don't choose a contribution rate within 45 days of eligibility, you'll be automatically enrolled at:

  • 5% pre-tax contribution rate, and
  • Invested in a target date fund based on your age.

You may change your contribution rate and investment elections at any time.

Wellbeing Credits

As a new hire, you’ll automatically receive wellbeing credits for the current year, which will be applied toward your own medical plan coverage. When you enroll through Workday, you’ll see the credits applied both at the top of the screen and on your confirmation page.

Learn more about wellbeing credits.

Opt-Out Credit

If you have other medical coverage, you can opt out of Nutanix medical benefits and receive an opt-out credit of $92.31 per biweekly paycheck.

To qualify, you must provide proof of enrollment in minimum essential coverage, which is usually another employer-sponsored medical plan. You'll need to upload documentation during enrollment that shows:

  • Your name.
  • Coverage start date.
  • Active status.

If you can't provide this documentation, you'll need to enroll in a Nutanix medical plan. (Good news: With wellbeing credits, coverage for yourself may be free.)

Note: The opt-out credit only applies to medical coverage.
