Disability insurance, provided through Prudential, replaces a portion of your income so you can continue paying bills and meeting financial obligations during your medical leave.
Eligibility | Short-Term Disability | Long-Term Disability
If you’re a full-time employee who works at least 30 hours a week, you’re eligible for short-term and long-term disability insurance coverage and are automatically enrolled.
Who pays for the benefit | Coverage is automatic and company-paid. Nutanix pays the entire premium for your coverage. |
Enrollment | You’re enrolled automatically when you become eligible. |
Administrator | Prudential. |
Elimination period | Benefits begin after seven calendar days of disability. |
Amount of the benefit | Benefits equal 60% of your weekly base salary, up to $2,310 per week. |
Benefit maximum | Benefits are paid for up to 25 weeks (after elimination period). |
Taxation of benefit | During your new hire benefits enrollment, you choose whether you want any future short-term disability benefits received to be taxable or non-taxable. If you make no election, you’re automatically enrolled in a non-taxable benefit. You can change your election during Open Enrollment each year. |

Benefit maximum | Benefits continue until you’re no longer considered disabled or you reach normal retirement age, whichever comes first. Note: There is a lifetime maximum of 24 months of coverage for long-term disabilities resulting from a mental illness or alcohol/substance use disorder. |
Taxation of benefit | Benefits received are taxable. |
*Pre-existing conditions aren’t covered in the first 12 months from the effective date of coverage.
